My dreams are coming true..

I get all of my emails on my iphone 24/7. Usually I get a slew of junk mail and tend to just delete them all before I even check who or where they are from. The other morning I woke up a bit early and decided to read through some before dragging my energy-deprived body out of bed. Thank god I did... I received an email from one of the editors of NAILS Magazine! I've been asked to do a nail tip for their Mothers Day feature in May's issue! My tip, a small write up, and a picture of me and my mummsie will be in NAILS Magazine! I'VE BEEN BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS SINCE I READ THE EMAIL!

So now my challenge is to create the perfect tip, worthy of a magazine. Wish me luck..

DYI = Dangerous

Recently at work, I was scanning through YouTube videos and stumbled upon something that infuriated me. I'm not usually one to gripe about the stupidity of people.. heck, usually I just grit my teeth and bear it, but when I came across this video instructing people on how to do their own fills at home, my eye began to twitch.

Times are tough - I get it. But instructing people who have had little to NO training to do their own nails at home is dangerous. Now.. instructing someone who has never touched acrylic before to do their own fill is bad enough, but to go ahead and tell people they can purchase an electric file on eBay and go ahead and use it at home, unsupervised and untrained makes my blood pressure spike and my eye feel like its twitching 90 miles an hour. How irresponsible for a professional to tell someone without any training or knowledge to do something like this. Using an e-file on yourself when you know how to use it safely and properly is difficult enough, but can you imagine the poor souls who attempted this with their very own 'professional' e-file from eBay of all places?! SERIOUSLY?! After watching the video, venting very quietly to myself, then showing my business partner *who turned out to be just as angry as me* I scrolled down to find that the creator of the video had disabled comments on her lovely little YouTube-diddy. surprise, surprise. I understand she was trying to create a helpful how-to.. but really, lady? really? sigh..

Hi Blog.. Remember me?

Holy Moly! Where have I been?! I haven't posted in so long. oopsies! My life has been so hectic lately, and by the time I get a chance to relax I'm usually ready for bed. So here's the deal: I've started going to bootcamp and I've also started the Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge. Ive only been doing this a week or so now and I'm already down a few pounds. yaaaay!

on to the nail talk: we've just got 16 brand spankin' new sparkles from Magnetic Nails! 16! And I'm chomping at the bit to get my little mitts all over 'em!
one of the many stamping plates that we ordered a few weeks ago arrived - the others were returned somehow, so now they are on their way back *can't wait!* We got these sparkles just in time - SPA SHOW IS NEXT WEEKEND! So you bet your bottom dollar Dawn and I will be rocking these glitters on our nails! DID I MENTION HOW EXCITED I AM FOR SPA SHOW?!
alsooooo... my Luxy Hair Extensions arrived today! I'm taking them to my hairdresser on Friday to see if she can put some low-lites in them so they blend nicely with my mane. I can't wait to wear them. Once I do I'm going to post a review on them. I did get the chance to feel them today and they feel so natural *Remi hair is the best!* Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

M.A.C Attack!

mama got some new makeup! I thought I'd do a quick post on my mini-M.A.C haul from today (!!!!) I've been really frustrated with how uneven my skin tone has been lately so I set off to MAC in hopes that the lovely ladies there could help me out - and they certainly did.
the goodies:

..M.A.C Mineralize Charged Water: Revitalizing Energy (Spray)
this helps set makeup and gives a nice dewy-glow to your skin. It also helps hydrate!

..Prep & Prime Fortified Skin Enhancer: 'Adjust'
I've only tried this in the store, but I'm already hooked. one of my favourite face primers ev-uuurrr! THIS is what helps even out my skin tone before applying my foundation because it has a slight tint to it. this is a must have!

..Studio Sculpt: NC15
also a new found love of mine. this foundation has great coverage but still feels light. it also has a very natural look to it which I adore.

..Studio Careblend/pressed: Medium
an awesome finishing powder. and yes, this has such a nice natural look to it, too.

..Mineralize Skinfinish Natural: 'Give me Sun!'
again - natural. I've always made the mistake of using 'shimmery' bronzers and that's not always a good look. a little dewy is nice.. but looking like Jack Frost is another. I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE the Mineralize products from MAC. This bronzer is matte - no shimmer, no glitter. it gave me that healthy, sun-kissed glow without looking like a disco ball. thanks, MAC!

..Cremesheen Glass: 'Partial to Pink'
finally! a nude gloss that doesn't make it look as though I've caked my foundation on my lips then applied clear gloss. This shade goes wonderfully with my skin tone and eyes. this pretty pink is nude enough to wear during the day, but still flirty enough to wear at night. another product to add to my faves.

I am slowly starting to add more and more M.A.C brushes to my collection, as I already have quite a few no-name's kicking around my brush drawer. These brushes are (not in order of the picture):

#129SE
#190SE
#275SE
#226SE
#266SE
#109 (not in picture)

I'm assuming these are all 'SE's because they came in that cute, clear little makeup bag as a set. That fluffy dome brush is callllllling my eyelids as I type this!

close up of the handles - silver sparkles, how cute!

One of these days when I get around to it I'm going to do a 'beauty loves & loathes' post and let you guys know my fave *and not so fave* products & tools :)

Valentine's Nails

Blogging is seriously becoming an addiction - holy mama. Here it is, the picture I promised. They didn't quite come out the way I had wanted but I think they're really cute *Amanda does too!*

-Be My Valentine?-

Here's a little peek at a set I did today. I did these on a client of mine that never lets me have free reign on her nails. Well... today, my friends. Today I got to do whatever I wanted! I love me a set of bling nails!

Paying it Forward

So I signed onto Facebook this afternoon while between clients and received a notification from our Facebook Page: Shabby Chic Nail Studio from fellow social networking tech, Aimie (Posh Nail Designs) that she had an article that she wrote published in NAILS Magazine (congrats Aimie!) and that we were mentioned in it! So we hopped on over to the digital copy of the February 2012 edition (check out pages 50-51 for the article) and started frantically looking for Aimie's article.

"Nail Tech's Paying it Forward". Not something a lot of us do now a days.. I think Chivalry and Paying it Forward died hand in hand. Aimie talks about how nail techs from all over are now using social networking to 'pay it forward', how one person shared another tech's page, who then shared another tech's page then they shared our page and we shared Aimie's page and so on and so on. She talks about how by all of us putting the cattiness aside and actually empowering one another, sharing ideas and tips, and sharing our Facebook pages has helped us all accomplish what we want the most: for our work to be recognized and to be seen all over the world. We create art on a daily basis, and we just want it to be seen! We're 'paying it forward' for the love of nails! We love what we do and this lovely little social networking platform has given us all the chance to do just that: network. I get to see beautiful nail art from literally all across the globe 24-7. For someone who loves their career as much as I do, it just doesn't get much better than that.

While we're on the topic of Paying it Forward.. I was visiting my Nanny in the hospital the other night and only stayed for a short while. The minimum time you're able to purchase for a parking pass is 2.5 hrs. When I left there was still 1.5 hours left on my pass. Now, this is going to sound really silly but we've been watching this TV show lately that is based on a guy redeeming himself for all of the wrongs he's made in the past. Its about Karma and paying it forward to those he's hurt. As silly as the show can be, it has inspired my boyfriend and I to do small things for others and instil good karma on everyone. Back to the parking pass.. When I noticed I only had used an hour of the pass, I quickly whipped out my leopard print pen (!!!) and scribbled on the top "Paying it Forward :)", hopped out of my little car and stuck the pass to the parking meter for the next person to use. The parking pass only cost me $2.75 - big deal right? But the fact that I maybe helped someone else out even in the slightest really made me feel good.

So here's my challenge to you, my darlings. Pay it Forward. No matter how big or small the gesture may be. Take that extra 5 minutes to talk to that person behind you in line, hold a door open for someone, smile at someone who looks like they need it (even if they don't smile back). The smallest thing could change someones day in the biggest way and I promise you, it's worth that little bit of extra effort.

ESI is right around the corner!

So I woke up this morning with a serious case of the Monday's *I know, I know.. its Wednesday..*, pulled my disheveled self out of my comfy bed and dragged myself to work.

Sitting here on my lunch break, cruising through Facebook *I'm seriously addicted, its sickening* and up pops the logo for the ESI Show. *Esthetiques Spa International Spa Show!!!!!!* I quickly then realized that today is February 1st. The spa show is on the 25 & 26. This means that there are only 24 days until SPA SHOW!!!! Makeup! Nail Art! Skin Care! Nail Art! Nail Art! Nail Art! OH MY GOD! I'm like a kid in a candy store - no exaggeration. For reals. I've had a chance to quickly look over the exhibitors and I'm so pleased with how many are coming and who is coming.

On another note: I'm about to do a set of Valentine's nails on my best friend. Depending on how they turn out or what we do, I'll do another post with a picture of them :)
